Chapter 6, Ambassador of Charity
Hai Momo let out a sound, picked up the kitchen knife, and locked the car door after he went down. Tang Ao quickly dealt with the more than ten zombies at the entrance, and the foul smell spread with the greenish-black blood. He strode to the main entrance: "I want to see your person in charge"
I remember who you are, Mr. Tang, the charity ambassador of City E. Behind the security door, the man's tone softened somewhat, but there was still no room for negotiation. Although someone like you is certainly not very charitable, I still hope you can stay. Not just here, but with her, you won't be able to go anywhere.
Tang Ao did not say much; he was originally unwilling for this woman to follow him. Assisting citizens is the government's responsibility and has nothing to do with him. He was even reluctant to take Hai Momo with him.
Tang Ao held Hai Momo's hand, while carrying an axe in the other. On the lawn of the community, there were several baby strollers. The strollers were, of course, empty, with bloodstains that were shocking to behold. Tang Ao's heart sank, uncertain whether Hai Momo's family was still alive.
The man shook his head: "You may stay, but your daughter cannot. I do not want useless people." Tang Ao certainly would not give up: "I could easily take down all three of you. If I didn't have a daughter, wouldn't you be afraid of what I might do?"
The woman sent them to the door and waited until there was no movement outside before opening it. Tang Ao looked around, confirmed it was safe, and then stepped out. He turned back to the woman and said, "Take care"
The woman revealed a kind smile: "I will. Goodbye."
Hai Momo tilted her head, very seriously: "She asked me if my meat is tender, her teeth are not very good."
The sixth floor has finally arrived, and Hai Momo went to knock on the door of Building A. No one responded from inside, so Tang Ao stepped forward and, with his axe, smashed open the security door in two strikes
He took Hai Momo's hand and gave the woman one last glance: "We are leaving"
The main entrance of the apartment building had long been damaged, and Hai Momo led him upstairs. The elevator was out of service, so he instructed Hai Momo to follow him as they ascended the stairs
Tang Ao had some impression of him. Speaking of Haiming Xian, they had met once. Haiming Xian is a life scientist, and the main focus of the Asa Group is drug production, so how could he not know about him? At that time, Tang Ao had even invited Haiming Xian to visit the production line of the Asa Group, intending to hire him as a technical consultant
Moreover, the zoo is home to countless animals, which can be bred and can temporarily satisfy hunger. It is indeed a pleasant place
He stood still, while the old woman with the vegetable basket remained motionless, seemingly searching for an opportunity. Tang Ao could no longer smile; he suddenly stepped forward, swinging an axe to the left, but his foot stumbled to the right. The old woman with the vegetable basket indeed dodged to the right and was instantly tripped and fell to the ground
The woman simply shook her head and said: "If I wanted to leave, I would have left long ago. You take Mo Mo with you. Mo Mo is a good child, please take good care of her."
Tang Ao smiled, the world of children is just so wonderful: "What did she say?"
Hai Momo lives on the sixth floor, and there are several zombies along the way, one of which is even carrying a vegetable basket. Tang Ao glanced at Hai Momo, who was looking at that zombie. After a long time, she surprisingly made a couple of grunting sounds like a zombie.
The next day, Tang Ao prepared enough fuel at the gas station and drove according to the address provided by Hai Momo to take her home. Along the way, there were often zombies chasing the car, but their speed was simply too slow to catch up.
Thus, he said nothing and drove away directly
The woman glanced at him and casually touched Hai Momo's head, saying, "Momo is not her daughter." She sighed, "At the beginning of last year, Mr. Hai brought Momo back from somewhere, claiming she was his illegitimate daughter. However, no one knows where her biological mother is. Mr. Hai is a workaholic and rarely returns home. For eight months of the year, Mrs. Hai is alone at home... To be fair, one cannot really blame Mrs. Hai; which woman could take her husband and another person's daughter away during such a time?"
The woman opened the door, looked at Tang Ao and Hai Momo, and seeing that neither of them was bleeding, she then stepped aside and let the two of them enter the house
It is not a long-term solution for you to be here alone; the floors are too high, and the population is dense, making it a high-risk area for viruses. Once a zombie comes in, you will have no way to escape. Tang Ao felt a sense of novelty; when did he start to consider the well-being of others?
Tang Ao was about to leave with Hai Momo when a sound came from the opposite door. Suddenly, a woman opened the door a crack and softly called out: "Is that Momo?"
She sighed and handed Hai Momo an orange: "The child has been in the hospital for a few months, and after coming out, he doesn't like to talk much."
Hai Momo closely followed him, while Wang Wang was held in his arms: "That old lady is speaking."
"Let's go." He wiped the blood from his face and led Haimao up the stairs. The corridor was filled with a foul stench, and this once well-lit upscale residential building was now littered with severed limbs, as if he had stepped into a hell of asuras
"How did Mo Mo end up with you?" The woman, being warm-hearted, glanced at Mo Mo, who was quietly eating rice porridge: "A few months ago, she inexplicably called me, convinced that I was her father. Later, she even came to my company. After the virus outbreak, we met again."
Tang Ao quickly took Hai Momo out and asked, "Who?"
The woman poured him hot water: "Parents? Don't you know? Momo's mother packed her things on the day the virus broke out, saying she was going back to her hometown to hide."
The woman looked at him in disbelief, glancing at Hai Momo before lowering her voice: "Her father is Mr. Hai Mingxian, who passed away in a car accident at the beginning of the year. The child is pitiful; she was in the car at the time. I didn't dare to look, but I heard from Mr. www.hetushucomcom that when the accident happened, Mr. Hai was lying on her, and half of his head was gone..."
"Thank heaven, thank earth, you are still alive!" As the woman spoke, she prepared a bowl of rice porridge for Tang Ao and Hai Momo. Tang Ao sat down on the sofa and handed the rice porridge to Hai Momo. Hai Momo scooped some to feed Wang Wang, and drank the rest herself
After understanding the course of events, Young Master Tang suddenly had a foreboding feeling—he feared that he would have to continue in the role of a caretaker.
After more than ten minutes, a man dressed in camouflage and wearing long rubber boots approached. He scrutinized Tang Ao through the elevated security gate, and Tang Ao was also observing him.
Tang Ao understood; she had forgotten about the car accident, but she still remembered this number
It is unfortunate that Hemingway is so engrossed in his own laboratory that he disregards the pharmaceutical production. When he had the car accident, many newspapers reported on it, but no one expected that Haimo would actually be his daughter
Tang Ao did not respond either: "My daughter."
Tang Ao's voice was cold: "Don't make me take her away. It's already terrifying enough to have you, and now I have to take your dog as well. It's impossible to add her to the mix."
The woman handed him a business card. Tang Ao lowered his head to take a look; the card belonged to Hai Mingxian. Below it, the phone number was strikingly his newly changed number. The woman sighed: "Mr. Hai is usually very busy, and Mrs. Hai... does not particularly like Momo. Momo often does her homework at my place, and she spends a lot of time on the phone with him. So..."
Tang Ao stood at the entrance of the zoo for a while. In fact, given his personality, he should have unhesitatingly abandoned Hai Momo. Alternatively, he could have taken her back to her home and handed her over to her neighbor
Tang Ao understood his meaning; he needed medication. Although Tang Ao was not a doctor, he managed a pharmaceutical factory and had some understanding of basic medical principles. Moreover, with his presence, they might be able to consider targeting the Asa Living Garden. The facilities there were far superior to those here.
"May I ask, where have her parents gone?" Tang Ao looked around; all the windows were boarded up, and a large pile of soybeans was stacked in the corner of the room. Presumably, this woman had survived on these.
He is in his thirties, at least 1.85 meters tall, with a darker complexion and a robust physique. Tang Ao noticed his hands, which were calloused and rough, indicating that he must have previously made a living with a knife.
Tang Ao stopped the car and instructed Hai Momo: "Lock the car doors and do not get out. Keep the knife ready."
Two large wolfhounds at the entrance began to bark ferociously. Two men on lookout with tranquilizer guns exchanged glances; one turned and entered the zoo while the other remained, still aiming his gun at Tang Ao
Tang Ao drove straight to the entrance of the wildlife park. Behind the security gate, someone was aiming a tranquilizer gun at him from a distance. About ten zombies were lurking at the entrance, perhaps drawn by the scent of delicious food inside, unable to leave.
Tang Ao led Hai Momo downstairs, walking ahead while she followed him, cradling Wang Wang in her arms. After descending one flight of stairs, Hai Momo finally spoke: "Dad?"
The man looked behind him and said, "Is there someone else in your car?"
He is a businessman who manages such a large company as the Yasa Group. If one were to say that he has never done anything against his conscience, he himself would not believe it. Concepts of benevolence and morality have long been discarded; he has become accustomed to focusing solely on results
"You look familiar," he said in a cold tone, exuding an air of superiority. Tang Ao replied indifferently, "It doesn't matter whether we knew each other before; in this world, being useful is what counts"
After driving for more than three hours, the car finally stopped at Haitang Garden. The once prosperous city center is now in ruins.
Tang Ao pushed aside the corpse on the stairs: "What?"
The room was empty and desolate. Tang Ao searched around but found no sign of the owner. All the daily necessities had been taken away, indicating that the owner left in a very composed manner. So why was Hai Momo not taken along? Or did mhetushucomcom encounter an accident along the way
Tang Ao could not understand: "Why didn't she bring her daughter?"
He glanced at the zoo, then turned back to look at Haimao in the small truck, remaining silent
Hai Momo silently followed behind him, no longer speaking
The woman packed all the fruits: "These, you can keep for Mo Mo." Tang Ao looked at Hai Mo Mo; they indeed had no fruits. Hai Mo Mo shook her head, and Tang Ao then declined: "Thank you, but we do not need them."
The most recent camp is the E City Wildlife Park. Located in the suburbs of E City, it is surrounded by high walls and deep nets, originally intended to prevent animals from escaping and harming people. However, it has now become a barrier for survivors
The man nodded, looking at the decapitated zombie behind him: "They told me that you have quite the skills." Tang Ao nodded: "I was a soldier."
The man paused for a moment, then shook his head: "If I take in your daughter, what will happen when their daughter comes looking for her in the future? Everyone is just trying to survive. It's the same thing; you can stay, but she cannot.
He hacked away at the few zombies blocking their path, while Hai Momo went to open the car door. The three of them—two people and a dog—quickly got into the car. Hai Momo sat in the passenger seat and looked up at the window on the sixth floor. Tang Ao knew she was reluctant to leave the neighbor who had treated her well, but at such a critical moment, his self-preserving nature would definitely not seek out trouble.
Tang Ao was taken aback: "Then what about her father?"
Hai Momo is unable to leave, and Tang Ao has no choice but to make long-term plans. For the two of them to live together, it is best to rely on a camp. The camp has isolation nets and even isolation walls, providing the most basic protective measures. Humans are inherently social animals, so it is certainly safer to be together.
Tang Ao was already prepared and swiftly severed the head with a single stroke
Tang Ao laughed out loud, and then swung an axe. Surprisingly, the zombie grandmother in the vegetable basket dodged it. Tang Ao was taken aback—these zombies only had reflexive responses, yet this one actually knew how to evade
